The year of 2022 brings a new face to entertaining, as we emerge ready to enjoy life’s finest events. The Fresno Bee’s Best of Central California, The People’s Choice awards, has also transformed to celebrate all that our diverse region has to offer.

In this year’s inaugural edition of the Best of Central California magazine, over 4,500 businesses competed in nearly 300 categories, and only 15% of businesses were voted the Best. We’re proud to announce that The Painted Table took home the Gold Best Catering Award! A special thank you to all that cast their vote to place us at the top of the list for best caterers in Central California.

We didn’t receive this merit on catering alone, because, as The Best of California magazine edition touted, The Painted Table also plans the entire event. Our “full service catering” means that we take care of every nuance, interweaving your theme with distinctive menu choices, visual presentation, and entertainment to knock the socks off your guests. No detail is forgotten.

Our event designers take the seed of your concept and make it a reality. From weddings and receptions to backyard parties and family celebrations, to business retreats and awards ceremonies, we’ll deal with the details so that you don’t have to. With The Painted Table, you’ll feel like a guest at your own event.

It’s no wonder we continue to earn local and international honors. Discover for yourself why The Painted Table received the 2022 Gold Best Catering Award in The Fresno Bee's Best of Central California. Get a head start on your plans for tying the knot in 2022 with The Painted Table’s Top Wedding Trends! Take our top ten list of unique ideas and put a custom spin on them to transform your wedding day into a one-of-a-kind reflection of your personalities that tell your own love story.

1. Boho Chic Styling

Your non-conformist wedding or elopement takes on a bohemian, hippy vibe. Intertwine the look of natural fibers, light clothing, and macramé with fresh or dried wildflowers, candles, and soft scents. Arrive to your wedding in a vintage bug or woody. Our staff creates the tablescape that takes a nod to your favorite boho décor.

2. Charcuterie Cones

This new food trend serves up the pretty and the practicality. Charcuterie cones are just what they sound like—Delicious finger food appetizers are delicately displayed in individual cones. Instead of guests diving into a board of hors devourers en-mass, they each hold their own, beautifully arranged portable serving, including gorgeous edible flowers and herbs. We’ll create a tapestry of flavor and color combinations to delight the eye and the palate.

3. Grazing Tables (always a favorite)

Invite your guests to pick up their favorite foods at their leisure! This giant charcuterie board welcomes snackers that love grabbing a variety of different morsels without going overboard. For your wedding reception, cocktail hour, or wedding rehearsal noshes, pick a theme and let us run with the ball: a pizza dream spread featuring all types of toppings upon pizza slices, a boho spread perched atop wooden serving trays decorated with sprigs of dried flowers, or your selection of delicacies from around the world. Even consider a dessert table with pretty, little bite-sized sweets for all to sample. The choice is yours.

4. Wood-Fired Pizza

A gourmet treat! Feature pizzas hand-tossed and homemade, in your favorite varieties, for the main dish at your engagement party get-together, bridal party blowout, and rehearsal dinner soiree. Select all-time classic topping combinations or get crazy with unforgettable and unexpected new taste sensations for your pizza-loving guests. Let The Painted Table catering team suggest popular combinations.

5. Soft Pretzels and Custom Beverages

Tie the knot with your reception spread! Soft pretzels and imaginative dipping sauces are the pleasurable appetizers of choice to stave off hunger for guests that are ready to charge into the main meal ahead of schedule. Add a customized wedding beverage, and you’re displaying your distinct personalities long before guests view your wedding cake and cake topper. We’ll create the perfect signature cocktails to work in tandem with your dipping sauce and additional appetizer flavors.

6. Mini Tacos Paired with Tequila Shots

This is just one example of cocktail and appetizer pairings that go well with weddings. Bite-sized tacos, filled with tantalizing ingredients perch atop a lime for a quick squeeze into a cooling shot of tequila. Or ask us for suggestions that pair other finger-foods with your favorite beverages. Port wine and stuffed mushrooms? Sliders and mini beer steins? Gazpacho and savory grilled cheese sandwich nibbles? The Painted Table delivers your pleasure.

7. Donut Walls

The versatility of this sweet catering trend is beyond belief! Choose your favorite flavors and color combinations to add whimsical glam for your wedding, rehearsal dinner, engagement party, or bridal shower. Guests take individual donuts from our chic presentation on the table or remove them from right off the sign. It’s dessert finger food at its best!

8. Pets at Weddings

Including extended family members, such as your children and stepparents, are an eternal way to demonstrate your love and commitment to one another. Include your fur babies. They can accompany you up the aisle, decorated as flower children and even act as ring bearers (place your wedding rings inside a special purse attached to their collars). Wrap your wedding theme around your pets—Display your equestrian side, your love of bunnies, your affinity for beagles, how your heart takes flight with macaws, and your love of all catty things, by including their images with table décor, signage, and cake toppers. The Painted Table is the source of endless ideas.

9. Picnic Brunch Bridal Showers
(with bottomless mimosas, too!)

Imagine a sunny day brunch that mimics a picnic at the park, beach, or forest. This cozy and comfy party features cushions and pillows that encourage guests to sit cross-legged or stretch out their legs upon the covered ground. A low-lying table can include posh décor (silk table runners, china, and pastel-colored beverage glasses) or rustic chic (checkered table runner with vintage plates and soda glasses). The Painted Table guides you to the style that complements your taste.

10. Yosemite Elopements (Picnic Style)

Perched upon a granite rock overlooking Yosemite Valley or on a secluded forest path, cover the ground with a blanket and enjoy a special picnic basket filled with everything you need to celebrate your wedding day. Toast with champagne, and then enjoy a stuffed picnic basket filled with uncommonly delicious appetizers, gourmet sides and entrees, and of course, our heavenly desserts. You choose the number of courses to include and the flavor combinations, and we provide the basket, plating, glasses, and extra-special touches. Share an idyllic picnic as your first meal together as newlyweds!

Attend this year’s film-tastic in-person experience of the 32nd Annual Reel Pride Film Festival presented at Fresno City College. This year, Fig & Honey is catering light hors d’oeuvres, specialized cocktails, and bubbly champagne as the star indulgences at the Reel Pride 32 Kick-Off Party. We’re so excited to be a sponsor for this exciting community event!

Be ready for all the mix and mingle fun, all to honor our Fresno area LGBTQ+ community. Dress to the nines for this exclusive “Kick-Off Party” in Fresno City College’s historic Old Administration Building courtyard on September 10th. The festivities begin at 6:30 pm. Besides sumptuous appetizers, enjoy a champagne toast, experience live musical entertainment by Drew Sands (Trap Girl), a complimentary wristband for the after-party at Splash Nightclub, and a special screening of the night’s feature film, “Summertime”.

As the theatre lights dim inside the FCC’s OAB Auditorium at 7:30 pm, you’ll watch what Peter Debruge of Variety calls “The most inspirational movie of the year.” This heartfelt film by Carlos Lopez Estrada “makes one feel a bit better about the future,” according to Dan Mecca of The Film Stage. Watch the trailer and get your tickets. Meet up at the after-party, Splash Nightclub’s nod to support locals.

Throughout the festivities, Kick-Off Partygoers are welcome to enjoy a special exhibit highlighting the presence and history of our Central Valley’s LGBTQ+ community. This “Constellating Care Networks’ Exhibition” and mapping project is located in FCC’s Art Space Gallery. Participate by sharing your artwork and memories to add to the “constellations” that are added to a large-scale map pinpointing these “places” of importance to our local LGBTQ+ residents.

We’ll see you there!

Picture this: a sweltering hot Central Valley summer day.  You venture out and escape to the serene nature found along the banks of the San Joaquin River. You dine on sumptuous cuisine that only The Painted Table’s artistry can offer. But you’re not just sitting on shore—You are seated at a long, elegantly set table in the river! With your feet immersed in the cool currents, you dine on a unique five-course meal designed just for the occasion.

This isn’t a dream. Here at the Painted Table, we transform extraordinary culinary adventures into reality. We painted outside the lines with event planning that visited the realm of the unexpected for our “Dinner in the Water,” in collaboration with Fresno’s Underground Supper Series, for our June 10th event.

Experimental menus paired with exquisite cocktails are the signature of Underground Suppers. From delicate appetizers, that included strawberry and ricotta crostata and fried smelt served with a fine ginger-seasoned dipping sauce, to a refreshingly spicy cucumber and coconut salad, our 40 guests were poised for the main entrée: braised short ribs brushed with fig and apricot glaze. The dessert teased tongues with a bounty of flavors and textures: our guests delighted in velvety lime curd served with pickled green apple 3 ways, sesame crumble, candied ginger, and sorrel.

Only the finest team of event pros can produce such a successful escape. The Modernist astutely created a specially crafted cocktail to pair with our menu. Beautiful flowers by Botanique Floral Artistry adorned our long table covered with crisp linens from The Linen Shoppe. Our guests sat under hanging golden lights strung by Light Up The Walls, and DC Photography Studios captured the entire event.

This kind of fantastical culinary getaway is what we’re known for at The Painted Table. Impeccable event planning and execution is in our wheelhouse. What’s your vision for your upcoming event? From an intimate dinner party to a big blowout celebration, we’re here to make your vision come to life. Contact our in-house event design team at (559) 443-7199.

Bio shared from Amy Jaye at Fresno's Underground Suppers:

I’m a Midwestern gal originally from the Windy City who grew up in a large family filled with exemplary hostesses. Always wanting to be in the thick of things, at the age of five I learned to play tambourine on “Jeremiah was a Bullfrog” for the band that performed at every family wedding. It was a sure gig at least three times a summer and cemented my love for events that bring people together.

I’ve spent more than twenty years planning festivals, conventions, and meetings in the entertainment, software, and hospitality industries, all the while helping friends and family organize the special moments of their lives. I’ve always loved to experience things in new and clever ways, so when it was time to carve my own path in the events industry, I chose to produce events that create community through food and travel experiences. The result is Fresno’s Underground Suppers and Bird and Stone Collective.

You might call me a traditionalist with a twist; I would say I am the original Mini Cooper updated with the new technology of today. Like a traveler from a bygone era, I dress up when I get on an airplane and check my suitcase, rather than put everything in the overhead bin. But my carry-on is filled with the latest gadgets to keep me busy and a pair of comfy socks so I can ditch my shoes. Who takes tea with cream (not milk) and espresso black, but also loves trying new flavors of kombucha and unusual craft cocktails? That’s me. And even though I love fancy food like caviar and oysters for a special occasion, there is nothing as tasty as Chicago deep dish pizza. Well, maybe cupcakes. Or a hot dog eaten in the bleachers at Wrigley Field.

We’re in love with Fresno. Since 2007, when Central Valley local chefs Rodney and Jeromie Hansen teamed up to open the doors to The Painted Table Catering and Event Company, our focus has always been on serving our neighbors for any event of distinction throughout the Central Valley:

• We choose locally sourced, seasonally fresh menu items to adorn tables and to support our local farmers, fisheries, and meat producers.

We stepped forward during the Creek Fire to prepare and serve delectable meals to volunteers, evacuees, and emergency personnel.

• And we remain committed to presenting our gorgeously elegant cuisine, while keeping your safety in mind.

We thrive on bringing our award-winning event design and exquisite menu options to our beloved locals.

Ever since 2010, when we acquired The Daily Planet in the historic Tower building in Fresno, we’ve had a headquarters where the culinary magic begins. Imagine taking a behind-the-scenes look where the event design takes shape, edible surprises are meticulously prepared, all showcased at a centrally located in-house venue. When we learned that the Tower Theatre Fresno might still be available for purchase, we stepped forward with an offer in order to preserve this special entertainment venue for generations of locals to enjoy. We are acutely aware that we are serving flavorful meals to brighten some mighty difficult days. “The uncertainties, the stress, the high drama, all faded away at dinner time. Every evening, we looked forward to the unique, elegant and tasty surprises offered to us by the Red Cross. Every meal was a pleasant surprise, and we were never disappointed. In fact, we were astounded by how great the meals were…Thank you and the Red Cross for helping us through these difficult times. My wife and I will never forget your kindness and support.”
